HOUSE DNA

Privacy Policy

Effective: October 2, 2026
Version: privacy-v1

Privacy at a Glance

House DNA helps homeowners create and maintain a digital record of their home. Because homeowners may store property information, documents, photographs, maintenance records and other information, privacy is an important part of the Service.

House DNA separates the concept of information associated with the property from information intended to remain private to an individual homeowner where the Service provides that capability.

You control the information you choose to enter and, where sharing or transfer controls are provided, the information you choose to make available to others.

House DNA relies on independent third-party technology providers to operate. No internet-connected service can guarantee absolute security or permanent availability.

The complete Privacy Policy follows. If this summary conflicts with the complete Policy, the complete Policy controls.

1. Scope of This Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy describes how House DNA ("House DNA," "we," "us" or "our") handles information in connection with the House DNA website, applications, property-record features, Home Passport, ownership-transfer features and related services (collectively, the "Service").

This Policy applies to information processed through House DNA. It does not govern the independent privacy practices of third-party websites or services that operate under their own terms and privacy policies.

2. Information You Provide

Depending on how you use House DNA, information you provide may include:

  • account information such as an email address and profile information;
  • property address and basic property characteristics;
  • room names, finishes, flooring and other room information;
  • equipment and appliance information, including manufacturer, model, serial number, installation information and warranty information;
  • maintenance schedules and maintenance history;
  • repair, replacement and improvement history;
  • photographs and other images;
  • documents, receipts, warranties, manuals and other records;
  • information associated with Home Passport;
  • information necessary to facilitate a House DNA digital-record transfer; and
  • other information you voluntarily enter into the Service.

3. Account and Authentication Information

House DNA uses account and authentication systems to identify users and protect access to property records.

Authentication services may process information needed to create accounts, sign users in, confirm email addresses, maintain authenticated sessions and reset passwords.

Users are responsible for maintaining the security of their own email accounts, devices and House DNA credentials.

4. Property Information

House DNA is designed around a persistent digital record associated with a physical property.

Certain information may therefore be intended to remain associated with a property's House DNA record even when stewardship of that digital record changes from one homeowner to another.

Examples may include equipment information, room and finish information, maintenance history, improvements and records that a user has designated as appropriate for the property record or transfer.

The existence of property information in House DNA does not make it an official governmental or legal property record.

5. Private and Transferable Information

House DNA may provide controls that allow users to distinguish information intended to remain private from information intended to accompany a property record.

You are responsible for reviewing those selections and deciding what information is appropriate to disclose, share or transfer.

House DNA cannot determine for you whether particular information should legally or practically be disclosed to another person.

6. Home Passport Sharing

House DNA may allow a homeowner to create or present a Home Passport containing selected property information.

When you choose to make information available through a Home Passport, recipients may be able to view the information you have selected for inclusion.

You are responsible for reviewing information before making it available to another person.

House DNA does not control what an authorized recipient may independently remember, record, download, photograph, reproduce or otherwise retain after information has legitimately been disclosed to that recipient.

7. House DNA Ownership Transfers

House DNA may allow digital stewardship of a property record to pass from one House DNA user to another.

A House DNA transfer concerns access to and stewardship of the digital property record. It does not itself transfer legal ownership of real estate.

Information designated as transferable may remain associated with the property after the transfer. Information designated as private or otherwise excluded from transfer is intended to remain outside the transferred property record, subject to the operation and limitations of the Service.

House DNA may preserve limited transfer records and audit information concerning the handoff for security, integrity, dispute-prevention and recordkeeping purposes.

8. How We Use Information

Information processed through House DNA may be used to:

  • provide and operate the Service;
  • authenticate users;
  • associate authorized users with property records;
  • display and organize homeowner-provided information;
  • store and retrieve documents and photographs;
  • maintain property and maintenance history;
  • facilitate user-requested Home Passport features;
  • facilitate user-requested House DNA transfers;
  • maintain security and prevent unauthorized access;
  • troubleshoot and improve reliability;
  • enforce applicable Terms and protect the Service; and
  • comply with applicable legal obligations.

9. Service Providers and Third-Party Infrastructure

House DNA depends on independent third-party technology providers to operate.

These providers may perform services such as website hosting, application deployment, source-code hosting, database services, authentication, cloud storage, domain and DNS services, network delivery and related technical functions.

Current infrastructure may include services provided by companies such as GitHub, Netlify and Supabase. Service providers may change over time as House DNA develops.

These independent providers may process or store information as necessary to provide their services to House DNA and are also governed by their own applicable terms, security practices and privacy policies.

House DNA does not control every aspect of a third-party provider's systems, policies, availability, security practices or business operations.

10. No Sale of Personal Information

House DNA does not currently sell personal information for monetary consideration and does not currently operate an advertising business based on selling homeowner property records to advertisers.

If House DNA's business practices materially change in the future, this Privacy Policy will be updated and any notices or choices required by applicable law will be provided.

11. When Information May Be Disclosed

Information may be disclosed in circumstances such as:

  • when you intentionally share information using a House DNA feature;
  • when you authorize transfer of appropriate property information to another user;
  • to technology providers acting on behalf of House DNA as reasonably necessary to operate the Service;
  • when reasonably necessary to investigate fraud, misuse, security incidents or threats to the Service;
  • when required by applicable law, valid legal process or governmental request; or
  • where otherwise permitted or required by applicable law.

12. Legal Requests

House DNA may preserve or disclose information where reasonably believed necessary to comply with applicable law, court orders, subpoenas or other valid legal process.

Where legally permitted and appropriate, House DNA may seek to limit disclosures to information reasonably responsive to the applicable request.

13. Data Security

House DNA may use administrative and technical measures intended to reduce unauthorized access to information, including authentication, property membership controls, database access policies and private file-storage controls.

However, no website, internet transmission, cloud service, database or storage system can be guaranteed to be completely secure.

House DNA therefore cannot guarantee that unauthorized access, loss, misuse, alteration, corruption or disclosure will never occur.

14. Third-Party Outages and Loss of Availability

House DNA does not own or operate every system required to provide the Service.

A hosting provider, database provider, storage provider, authentication provider, source-code provider, network provider or other third party may experience an outage, change its policies, restrict service, suspend service, terminate service, suffer a security incident or permanently discontinue a product.

Such events may be outside the reasonable control of the House DNA developer/operator and may affect access to information or continued availability of the Service.

15. Data Retention

House DNA may retain information while an account or property record remains active and for additional periods reasonably necessary for operation, security, backups, dispute prevention, transfer integrity, compliance with law or other legitimate purposes.

Different categories of information may be retained for different periods.

Deletion from an active application database may not result in immediate deletion from backups, logs or third-party systems where delayed deletion is technically necessary or legally permitted.

16. Service Discontinuation and Data Availability

House DNA may be modified, suspended or discontinued as described in the Terms of Use.

Users should not rely upon House DNA as their sole repository for important or irreplaceable records.

Users are responsible for retaining independent copies of documents, photographs, receipts, warranties and other information they consider important.

House DNA cannot guarantee permanent storage, indefinite retention, continued availability or recovery of information after a service interruption, account termination, third-party infrastructure event or discontinuation of the Service.

17. User Choices and Account Information

Users may be able to update certain account and property information directly through House DNA.

Additional access, correction or deletion rights may apply depending on applicable law and the nature of the information.

Certain property-history, transfer, security or audit records may need to be preserved where deletion would undermine the integrity of the property record, security, legal compliance or another user's legitimate record.

18. Children

House DNA is intended for adults managing residential property information and is not designed or directed toward children.

Users should not intentionally submit personal information about children unless the information is reasonably necessary for a legitimate property-related purpose and the user has lawful authority to do so.

19. Information About Other People

If you submit information concerning another person, you are responsible for ensuring that you have a lawful basis or appropriate permission to provide that information.

Avoid uploading unnecessary personal information about contractors, previous owners, household members, tenants or other individuals.

20. Changes to This Privacy Policy

House DNA may update this Privacy Policy as the Service, technology, service providers, legal requirements or information practices change.

Updated versions will include a revised effective date or version identifier.

Where required by applicable law or appropriate because of a material change, additional notice or acknowledgment may be requested.

21. Relationship to the Terms of Use

This Privacy Policy should be read together with the House DNA Terms of Use.

The Terms contain additional provisions concerning service availability, third-party infrastructure, homeowner responsibilities, warranties, limitations of liability, House DNA transfers and user backup responsibilities.

22. Contact

Questions concerning this Privacy Policy or House DNA privacy practices may be submitted through the contact method made available by House DNA.

A dedicated privacy or support contact address may be designated as the public pilot expands.

Your Responsibility

Review information before sharing it. Do not store information you do not have the right to possess or disclose, and maintain independent copies of records that are important to you.

House DNA is a tool for organizing property information. You remain responsible for deciding what you enter, maintain and share.
